In an effort to both sustain the natural environment and improve the work environment of its employees, the owners of Dansko set out to build green. Along the way, they discovered so many cost-effective ways to incorporate earth-friendly materials, they believe they met the gold standard for criteria set by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. The system focuses on criteria including the use of environmentally-conscious building materials, natural lighting, ventilation, and rain water filtration. EP Henry is proud to be the product manufacturer of choice in several areas of the new retail and office facility.
EP Henry Coventry Stone Pavers and Coventry Wall Plus, both in Harvest Blend, provided a cost-effective way to create an inviting outdoor courtyard that offers important green benefits. Geogrid-reinforced segmental block walls surround the paved seating area, located just off the cafeteria on the building's lower level. The tiered wall design not only allows the maximum amount of natural light to enter the building, but also promotes vegetation growth.
Elsewhere, EP Henry's Monoslab Environmental Paving System was used to create a hard-wearing, yet environmentally sensitive access drive for service and delivery vehicles. While the concrete grid system fosters the growth of grass or other ground cover by allowing rainwater to percolate back into the earth, it's also durable enough to stand up to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
