EP Henry ECO™ Permeable Pavers Can Help Your Property Qualify for LEED® Program Tax Credits.

In many counties and municipalities, residential and commercial property owners can apply for a credit to their property taxes if they implement stormwater management techniques - such as permeable pavement constructed with EP Henry's line of ECO Pavers - that reduce the overall run-off of storm water on their property. To determine if your local government has a storm water management tax credit available, contact your city/county finance or planning and zoning offices.

EP Henry ECO Permeable Pavers Can Contribute to the LEED® for Homes Green Building Rating System Developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for the U.S. Department of Energy

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Homes is an initiative designed to promote the transformation of the mainstream building industry toward more sustainable practices.  By recognizing sustainable design and construction in homes nationwide, LEED for Homes helps home builders differentiate their homes as some of the best in their markets and enables home buyers to more readily identify third-party verified green homes.  The LEED for Homes Rating System is part of the comprehensive suite of LEED assessment tools offered by USGBC to promote sustainable design, construction and operational practices in buildings nationwide. A full description and additional informational downloads can be accessed at www.usgbc.org/LEED.

EP Henry's line of ECO pavers can qualify for points or "credits" in the LEED rating system. Points are awarded under several categories of use including storm water management, use of locally or regionally sourced materials, and use of reflective materials in exterior design to reduce heat island effect.

EP Henry ECO Permeable Pavers Can Help in Earning LEED Green Building Rating System Credits Through:

Sustainable Sites (SS)

  • SS 3 - Local Heat Island Effects
  • This credit awards the use of landscape and exterior design to reduce heat island effects.  EP Henry offers Solar Reflective Index (SRI) compliant color(s) in ECO Pavers which meet the requirements of this credit.
  • SS 4 - Surface Water Management
  • For storm water management, Credit 4.1 can be earned where design provides that at least 70% of the built environment (excluding are under roof) is permeable or designed to capture water runoff for infiltration on site. Driveways, walkways, patios and/or pool decks constructed with EP Henry ECO® Permeable Pavers can meet this requirement.
(Note:  EP Henry's line of segmental retaining walls can provide LEED for Homes credit under SS 4.2 as well which calls for permanent erosion controls.)

Water Efficiency (WE)

With their high rate of permeability, EP Henry's ECO Line can be used as part of a rainwater harvesting system by building a holding tank below the pavers to capture and store rainwater for future purposes such as irrigation. This may qualify for credit under WE 1.1.

Materials and Resources (MR)

MR 2.2 provides credit for use of products that were extracted, processed and manufactured within 500 miles of the qualifying home. The benefit under this credit is to minimize environmental impact related to shipping (gas, oil, etc.). EP Henry products are manufactured in 3 locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic, using locally sourced materials.
